Mr. Bennie Bernard Hawkins, Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia formerly of South Boston, Virginia died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Campbell County, Virginia on March 16, 1923 and was 90 years old. He was the son of the late Bennie Bernard Hawkins, Sr. and the late Myra Morris Hawkins and married to Louise Powell Hawkins, who survives. He was a member of the Dan River Baptist Church and a WWII Army veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8 and a retired supervisor from Dominion Virginia Power. He is survived by: His Wife Louise Powell Hawkins of Lynchburg One Sister Phyllis Ann Hawkins Roakes of Gladys, VA Two Brothers David Clark Hawkins of Roanoke, VA Walsa Morris Hawkins of Gladys, VA A number of nieces and nephews Preceded in death by: One brother, William Paxton Hawkins Three sisters, Laura Alice Hawkins, Frances Hawkins Chenault and Katherine Hawkins Kelly Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church following the services.
