James Owen Francis

Mr. James Owen Francis of Scottsburg, Virginia died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Woodview Nursing Home. He was born July 31, 1927 in Halifax County, Virginia and was 85 years old. He was the son of the late John Massey Francis, Sr. and the late Minnie Owen Francis and married to the late Belle Ford Francis. He was a member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran. He was also a former member of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department and past caretaker of the Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Francis retired from ABB where he was a welder and painter. Mr. James Owen Francis is survived by: One Daughter Gail F. Crews of Virgilina One Son Jimmy Owen Francis and wife Linda of Scottsburg Two Grandchildren Dana Spangler Roberts and husband Christopher of Richmond Shannon Hunt & husband Matt of Alton One Sister Lucille Thompson of Omega Preceded in death by: One grandson, Ron Wilmouth Two Brothers, John M. Francis, Jr. & Tony Francis Two Sisters, Agnes Grantham & Madeline Moorefield Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Oakland Cemetery with the Pastor Raymond Moorefield officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Powell Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. and other times at the home of Gail Crews, 1067 Reaves Loop, Virgilina, VA.
