Mary Alice Newton Poteat

Mrs. Mary Alice Newton Poteat of East Oak Hill Drive, Halifax, VA died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Woodview. She was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on September 16, 1935 and was 77 years old. She was the daughter of the late Shirley Clayton Newton and Willie Vera Owen Newton and was married to the late William Daniel Poteat. She was a member of Dan River Baptist Church. Survivors include: One daughter Patricia P. Smith and husband Larry of Scottsburg One son Gerald Wayne Poteat and wife Linda of Buffalo Springs, VA Three grandchildren Christopher Poteat and wife Stacey of South Boston Eric Poteat and wife Melissa of Vernon Hill Holly Blackstock and husband Riley of Clover Seven great grandchildren One brother Robert Fuller Newton of Nelson, VA She was also preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Clayton Newton A graveside side service will be held on Monday, May 6 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship immediately following the service.
