Mr. Lowell Thomas Ferguson Sr. of 16185 LP Bailey Memorial Highway died Friday, April 19, 2013 at his home. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on February 14, 1935 and was 78 years old. He was the son of the late Walker Douglas Ferguson and Cecil Shotwell Ferguson and was married for 58 years to Doris Younger Ferguson. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher and was Treasurer for over 50 years. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and was retired from the Virginia Army National Guard where he attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major (CSM). He also was a member of French Masonic Lodge AF&AM, was a lifetime member of the NRA, and a member of the Clarkton Hunt Club. Survivors include: His wife Doris Younger Ferguson of Nathalie Four sons Lowell Thomas Ferguson Jr. and wife Debbie of Dunn, NC Andy Ferguson and wife Ginger of Nathalie Glenn Ferguson and wife Beth of Nathalie Rod Ferguson and wife Michelle of Richmond Three sisters Frances Clark of Keysville Elizabeth Guthrie of Nathalie Carolyn Francis of Nathalie One brother Barry Ferguson of Lynchburg Ten grandchildren Brittany Coburn and husband Chris of Coats, NC Lowell Thomas Ferguson III of Coats, NC Samuel Ferguson of Dunn, NC Jonathan, Caleb, Lydia, and Bethany Ferguson all of Nathalie Walker, Mackenzie and Lillian Grace Ferguson of Richmond He was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Ferguson A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Staunton River Community Church in Brookneal with Rev. Andy Ferguson and Rev. Tom Ferguson officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at the Memorial Presbyterian Church at Volens. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
