Edwin Augustus Stebbins Jr.

Mr. Edwin Augustus "Ned" Stebbins Jr. of 6189 Birch Elmo Road, Elmo, VA died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on July 25, 1935 and was 77 years old. He was the son of the late Edwin Augustus Stebbins Sr. and the late Elizabeth Osborne Stebbins and was married to Venetia Whitt Stebbins. He was an active member of Arbor Baptist Church, the Halifax Heritage Festival, and was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge # 106. Ned was a retired tobacconist with Universal Leaf. He loved auto racing, but his real passion was for fixing and restoring old tractors and hit and miss motors. Survivors include: His wife Venetia W. Stebbins of Elmo One daughter Tracey Stebbins Smith of Danville Two grandchildren Jordan Elizabeth Smith of Danville Caroline Stebbins Smith of Danville Three sisters Julia Stebbins Carrington of SouthBoston Nancy Stebbins Lee of Clarksville Mary Louise Stebbins of South Boston Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews His best buddies and constant companions, Vanna White, Shewee, Spot Check Willie, and Harold Melvin He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Elizabeth Stebbins Creath. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Arbor Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Davis conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the burial, a small reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
