Dorothy Overby Sneed

Mrs. Dorothy Overby Sneed of 3014 Johnson Mill road, Vernon Hill, VA died Friday, October 26, 2012 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on February 15, 1923 and was 89 years old. She was the daughter of the late Luther Overby and Minnie Dalton Overby and was married to the late Chester H. Sneed Sr. She was a member of Halifax Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. Survivors include: Two daughters Donna S. Ferguson and husband Luke of Tampa, FL Jeanne S. Medley and husband Larry of Vernon Hill Two sons Chester H. Sneed Jr. and wife Margaret of Ringgold Larry P. Sneed and wife Sandra of South Boston Two sisters Miriam Shumaker of Nathalie Ruth Moon of Long Island Two brothers Thomas Overby of Richmond Charles Overby of Brookneal Thirteen grandchildren Twenty one great grandchildren A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Halifax Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Collins conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home.
