Mr. Charlie Thomas Guthrie of 205 Pine Lane, South Boston, VA died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on April 16, 1929 and was 83 years old. He was the son of the late Lee Thomas Guthrie and Daisy Cothran Guthrie and was married to Jean Landrum Guthrie who survives. He was the former owner of the Halifax Appliance Store and was a former Magistrate. He was a member of the Dan River Baptist Church, a member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge #96 AF&AM, and honorary member of Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge # 91, a member of American Legion Post 8 where he was a former member of the honor guard, and was employed at Virginia International Raceway for 12 years. Survivors include: His wife Jean Landrum Guthrie of South Boston One daughter Debra G. Humber of Raleigh, NC One son Jerry Thomas Guthrie of South Boston One brother Stuart Guthrie of Lennig Three grandchildren Chris Humber, Lauren Humber, and Shane Thomas Guthrie one great grandchild Jayden Liles A funeral will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
