Mr. John Robert Humphries, Sr. of 6118 Huell Matthews Highway & 12 Edmunds Street, South Boston, Virginia died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center. He was born in Person County, North Carolina December 21, 1944 and was 67 years of age. He was the son of the late William Edward Humphries and Pearl Ritter Humphries and is survived by his wife Emma Jean Gordon Humphries. Mr. Humphries worked for the Halifax Cotton Mill as a fixer, then with the Coca Cola Company as a truck driver, also worked with U. S. Plywood, and ran Wilborn Avenue Exxon after which he opened Johns Amoco on Edmund's Street from which he retired, then opened and ran John's Check Cashing Service until his death. Bowman of Burkeville, VA Fourteen Grandchildren ***Preceded in death by: Three Brothers, Jimmy, Dave and Melvin Humphries One Grandchild Funeral Services for Mr. John Robert Humphries will be held Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 2:00 P. M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Reaves and the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Saturday from 7:00-9:00 P. M. and other times at his home, 6118 Huell Matthews Highway, South Boston,Virgina.
