Ruth Chandler Llewellyn died Sunday, December 11th, 2011, in Charlotte, NC, at the age of 89. She was the widow of Robert Boxley Llewellyn, Jr., and the daughter of the late Joe Beale Chandler and Esma Clement Chandler. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Llewellyn of Berkeley, CA and her husband Jerry Reddan; and her two sons, Robert Llewellyn of Charlottesville, VA and his wife Bobbi Llewellyn, and Boxley Llewellyn of Charlotte, NC and his wife Jane Llewellyn. She is also survived by one brother, Wallace Chandler of Richmond, VA, and his wife, Nita Chandler; and one sister, Josephine Grimsley of Hilton Head, SC. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clem Chandler, Beale Chandler, and Lindy Chandler, and two sisters, Laura V. Mills and Louise Coble. Mrs. Llewellyn attended Mary Washington College and graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in elementary education. She taught in public schools for 24 years, the last 14 in Halifax County. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in South Boston, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday School for 35 years. She volunteered for many years at Good Samaritan and the South Boston - Halifax County Museum of Fine Arts and History. She especially enjoyed golf, ACC basketball, bridge, family history, and her seven grandchildren Melissa Katafiasz, Jonathan Reddan, Mary Cox, Cara Llewellyn, the late Drew Llewellyn, Benjamin Llewellyn, and Jenna Llewellyn, and five great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in South Boston on Friday, December 16th, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 815 N.
