Clyde Anderson Hall, 82, of South Boston, died August 31, 2010 at his home. He was born February 16, 1928, in the Kentuck area of Pittsylvania County, and was the son of John Anderson and Eva Lovelace Hall. He was married to his wife of 59 years, the late Iris Wells Hall. Mr. Hall served in two branches of the service. He joined the Navy in December, 1945, and was gunner on a dive bomber in an air group squadron off the carriers Kearsarge and Randolph. He was a Petty Officer, Third Class, when he was honorably discharged in October, 1947. As a reservist, he was called into the Army during the Korean Conflict and served nine months in Korea with the 304th Signal Battalion, Aviation Section, in 1951. He was a sergeant when he was honorably discharged in November, 1952. Mr. Hall went into the tire business after his stint in the Navy and worked as a wholesale territory manager for BFGoodrich before and after his Korean service, first in Richmond and later in Portsmouth and Danville. He moved to South Boston in 1955 and owned and operated Hall's Tire Service until his retirement in 2001. A pilot for many years, Mr. Hall was one of the founding members of the Danville chapter of the Civil Air Patrol in 1950 and remained an active aviator until earlier this year. He also was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Halifax Country Club.
