Andrew S. Anderson, Jr.

Andrew S Anderson, Jr (Andy), the son of Swanson and Louise Anderson, and was born in Halifax County.  Although he traveled mainly to please his family, he remained a devoted Country resident for most of his adult life.  He loved the Piedmont setting and the sporting life offered in our beautiful area. Andy was an avid sportsman; a terrific fisherman, while hunting in the fall was a long-treasured activity which he learned largely from his Father.

Andy attended Halifax County High School and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) with a B.S.  in finance.  He started his early career as a teacher and very much enjoyed his students, but allure of the family business soon stole him away from teaching.  He joined his Father as a partner in the Banner Warehouse business and continued in that role until his retirement.  He relished the excitement of the sales and loved knowing the farmers personally who brought their crops for sale to the Banner.  His friends from this time of his career remained some of his best friends for life.

Andy had another significant career.  He became a dedicated, unpaid volunteer for his community.  He was a certified EMT and first responder and served many years in the Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a lifetime member. He continued his support and deep community interest long after he was not physically able to race out at all hours of the night to help others. He was also a member of Catawba Baptist Church.

Andy is survived by his daughter, Sandi Satterfield, grandchildren, Isaac and Abigail Satterfield, his son, Andrew S Anderson, III (Tracy), granddaughter, Madison Anderson, and sister, Dr. Elizabeth Anderson (Dr. Edward Delaney).

A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 8, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Shelton Miles officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sandi Satterfield, 6210 Mountain Rd, Halifax.
