Audrey Chandler Powell

Audrey Chandler Powell of Altavista, VA passed away January 29, 2024 at the age of 83.  She was born in Halifax County to the late Rupert Preston Chandler and the late Lexa Anderson Chandler on August 9, 1941.  She was married to Lacy White Powell who survives.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.   Audrey received her master’s in education from Longwood College and taught with the Campbell County School System and at Scottsburg and Halifax Academy.  Apart from being an educator, she was known for her love of literature and spent countless hours reading books by her favorite authors.  May her gentle soul find eternal peace, knowing that her contributions to the field of education and community will forever be remembered and treasured.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Boelte officiating. Burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
