Barbara Dix Oakes

Mrs. Barbara Dix Oakes of South Boston, VA passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024. She was born in Danville, VA on November 6, 1934 and was 90 years old. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Dix and the late Eula Willis Dix and was married for 62 years to the late James Marvin Oakes. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and was a retired Registered Nurse. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

 Survivors include: One son Michael Oakes and wife Michelle of Jacksonville Beach, Fl Two grandchildren Natalie Oakes of Boston, MA Ryan Oakes of Boston, MA Their mother Brenda Oakes of Denver, CO

One sister Patsy Robertson and husband Tom of Sumter, SC Two brothers Dexter Dix and wife Pam of Providence Forge, VA Douglas Dix and wife Rosemary of Richmond, VA Sisters-in-law Rachel Dix of Rocky Mount, NC, Betty Hill of South Boston, VA and a host of nieces and nephews

 She was also preceded in death by one son, James M. Oakes, Jr., Brothers, Bill Dix and Roger Dix and his wife Geraldine, and sister, Connie Faye Dix.

 A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

 A visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home for 1 hour prior to the service.
