McCraw, Barry Glenn, 79, of Midlothian, VA passed away suddenly on March 12, 2024. A cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ann C. McCraw; two sons B. Clayton (Hillary) and Palmer C. McCraw; two grandchildren Campbell F. and Quinlan C. McCraw; his sister Patricia A. Goodwin, and sister-in-law Ellen F. Hudgins (J.C.); brothers-in-law David L. Goodwin, W. Benny Justis IV (Audrey) and W. Clay Justis (Ann); special nieces Marcia R. Sale (Ronnie) and Kimberly A. Austin; and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Barry was born to the late Herman and Marjorie McCraw on April 25, 1944 in Lynchburg, VA. As a child, he was a marble champion, an avid basketball player, and early salesman at heart – even selling holly to his neighbors. After completing E. C. Glass High School in 1962, he continued his education, graduating from the University of Mars Hill, N.C.
Launching his 58-year career in the garment industry, traveling tirelessly throughout the southeast, Barry quickly became recognized as a legend in his field. He was, also, a longtime member of the Old Dominion Fashion Exhibitors, the Atlanta Apparel Mart, and West Palm Beach Trendz Apparel Exhibitors. Barry enjoyed a passion for his work and had a unique connection with people. In the rare instances he was not working, he enjoyed collecting antiques, bass fishing, Labrador retrievers, the Virginia Cavaliers, and The Kentucky Derby.
He was gifted with an extraordinary sense of humor that never failed to make those around him laugh, and throughout his life, he won the hearts of all who crossed his path. Family was the focal point of Barry’s life, along with the many friends and colleagues that stood by him – he will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 20th, at Woody’s Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian, VA 23113. Pastor Robert B. Dawson officiating. Barry’s ashes will be scattered at Smith Mountain Lake in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Barry’s name to a charity of your choice.
The family sincerely appreciates the many kind acts of condolences. The family would, especially, like to thank the members of the Old Dominion Fashion Exhibitors, Atlanta Apparel Mart, Trendz Apparel Exhibitors, Suzette and Mark Carney, and the countless buyers and manufacturers – Patty Kim, Sandra and Laurent Perez, and Wayne Qian.
