Carolyn Jane Stevens

September 14, 1953 — December 10, 2024

Carolyn Jane Stevens

Carolyn Jane Stevens gained her heavenly wings on December 10, 2024. Born to William E. Stevens and Bertha Adkins Stevens on September 14, 1953.

Jane loved watching the birds, singing Christmas Carols, drinking Dr. Peppers, sweet tea, but most of all she loved books. Every time you would go for a visit the first thing she would ask if you brought her some books, and don’t forget she loved cards with money in them. We would make sure to include lots of dollar bills in them. She really didn’t care about the larger denominations of the bill, she just wanted lots of ones. We always tried to get together for special occasions like her birthday, Christmas, etc. and she liked getting gifts but for the most part the money was the big gift for her.

Carolyn Jane moved a lot. When she was around eight to nine years old, mom and dad placed her in Lynchburg Training School and Hospital. There she lived many years until it was decided to have her placed in a group home. The first Group Home was in South Boston, but it was not safe for her, so after careful consideration she was placed in Petersburg. She was not happy there so after some time, she was moved to the Rainbow House in Lawrenceville, where she thrived, and she loved it there. After some time, they started having issues with the water and she had to be moved again. This time to Hazel Group Home in Boydton, VA where she lived until her passing. She loved her new home there and everyone was so kind to her.

Carolyn is survived by her siblings, Danny Stevens (Mary), Martha Payne (Bill), Donna Stevens (Michael) and Matthew Stevens (Cathy). She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, Ann Stevens, Bill Payne (Jennifer), Clarence Thompson (Lisa), Stephanie P. Clay (JC), Amanda Calvert (Caleb), Alyssa Stevens, and Rebecca Dorton (Ethan).
