Charles David "C.D." Covington

Charles David Covington, affectionately known as "C.D.," was called home to be with his Lord on August 3, 2024, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 3, 1934, in Halifax County, at a place fondly referred to as "the Cove."

Mr. Covington enjoyed a successful career in the grocery industry, holding various positions. Before his retirement in 2003, he served as the General Manager for Southside Foods and LEM market. After retiring, he relished spending time with his family, attending church, and enjoying life on his farm. He loved riding his golf cart, relaxing on his porches, and tending to his animals.

Charles had a deep love for raising animals. He cherished his miniature horses, donkeys, and exotic ducks, and his dogs were beloved members of the family. He was a dedicated member of Centerville Baptist Church.

He is predeceased by his parents, Eddie and Curtis Covington, and his siblings: Benton Covington, Almeda Seamster, Roy Covington, Elmer Covington, Welford Covington, Jean Dalton, and Marshall Covington.

Charles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances Moorefield "Polly" Covington; his children, Mitzi Covington, Garry (Lisa) Covington, and Patricia (Anthony) Harris. He was a proud grandfather to Cameron Covington, Amanda Younger, and Justin Harris, and had one great-granddaughter. He was also blessed with the care and companionship of a special caregiver, Cathy Whitt.

The funeral service will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Cathy Whitt for her loving care and support during Charles' final months, as well as to 1st Care at Home for their compassionate assistance.
