Charlotte Hite Coleman of Halifax, VA, passed away on May 27, 2019, following a lengthy illness. She recently celebrated her 81st birthday with her family. Charlotte was born on May 19, 1938, in Clarksville, VA. She was the youngest daughter of the late Johnnie Cornelius Hite and the late Avis Blanks Hite. She was brought up in Clarksville enjoying a fun-filled childhood with her two older sisters, with whom she remained close throughout her life.
After graduating from Clarksville High School and completing a secretarial course in Richmond, VA, Charlotte married her husband of 62 years, Gene Raymond Coleman, who predeceased her by 11 months.
Charlotte retired from a career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, later ABB, in the accounting and marketing departments. She enjoyed the many friends she made through her work. As her children were growing up, she was active in their activities and loved spending time with her children and their friends. When her children became busy teen-agers, Charlotte and Gene took up golf and enjoyed playing courses throughout the Southeast. Charlotte was proud to have three holes-in-one. She loved playing the ladies golf leagues with many of her close friends, and she enjoyed her bridge club. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her grandchildren. Charlotte was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and the Halifax and Greens Folly Country Clubs.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Joni Coleman Fitzgerald and her husband William Henry Fitzgerald, Jr., her son Raymond Paul Coleman and his wife Diana Robinson Coleman, and her sister, Carolyn Hite McGhee. She is also survived by grandchildren Christina Ashley Coleman, William Henry Fitzgerald III, Katherine Coleman Fitzgerald, and great grandson, Sammy D. Brown.
