Donald Shelby Guill, 91, of Halifax, Virginia passed peacefully on May 23, 2023. He was born on October 26, 1931 in Crewe, Virginia and was the son of the late Holt Easely Guill, Jr. and Lessie Duffer Guill. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Popek Guill; his brother Maynard Guill (Ruth); his brother-in-law Dr. J. Newton MacCormack; his brother-in-law James Popek (Carol); and son-in-law Keith Stanek. Donald is survived by his sister Amy MacCormack; five children, Mary Stanek (Jonathan), Shelby Guill, Michael Guill (Ronda), Beth Fowlkes (Tim), and Joan Cooper (Brad); and the sixth Guill child, Dalyn Seay; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. Donald loved sports but was particularly fond of baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was an avid duck hunter, enjoyed fishing, and loved trips to the beach with his family. After high school, Donald served in the United States Air Force for four years. During that time, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, U. N. Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Surveyor after 34 years of service. Family will be receiving friends at the home of Donald Guill. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11am in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
