Earl Gunn Powell

Mr. Earl Gunn Powell of South Boston, VA went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2025 at home surrounded by his nieces Vickie Shelton, Patricia Conway Moran, and Christy Maupin, also with his special devoted caregivers Karen Williams and Jenny Robbins. He was born in Halifax County, VA on April 25, 1933 to the late Herbert A. Powell and the late Annie Thomas Alderson Powell. He was married 42 years to the late Shirley A. Powell. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Victor Henry Powell, Herbert Lester Powell, Lacy White Powell, Betty Lou Powell Vernon and Agnes Mae Powell Conway.

 He was a member of First Baptist Church of South Boston and the Slate Bible Sunday School Class and served as a former Deacon and on various committees. Earl served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as Corporal and served as a medic in the 33rd Infantry Division. After proudly serving his country, Earl embarked on his career as a salesperson, in which his outgoing personality led to his success and he never met a stranger, calling them “Good Buddy”.

 A graveside service with Military Rites will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Boelte officiating
