Edward "Larry" Lawrence Jennings

Edward Lawrence “Larry” Jennings passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, surrounded by family and close friends. Born on February 3, 1951, he was 74 years old.

Larry was the son of the late Irving Jennings and the late Dorothy Brown Jennings. He grew up on his family’s farm and pursued his education at East Carolina University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a minor in Urban and Regional Planning in 1973. Larry built a successful career in urban, town, and county planning before transitioning to a career in landscape design in 1987.

His passion for education led him to earn a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Special Education from Longwood University in 2007. Larry dedicated 20 years to Virginia public schools, primarily serving students with special needs. For 17 years, he taught inclusion classes at Randolph-Henry High School in the Math and History Departments, where he found his work deeply rewarding. From 2016 to 2018, he also served as the school’s Theatre Director, sharing his love of the arts with his students. He continued teaching until his retirement on September 1, 2024.

Larry’s greatest joy was being a father to his daughters, Olivia and Laurel. He was a devoted and loving parent who took great pride in caring for them. He also cherished memories from years of travel with them and their grandmother.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Olivia Jennings (Hannah) and Laurel Jennings; his brother, Irving Thomas Jennings Jr. (Pamela); and his nephews, Tad Jennings (Lynn), Kyle Jennings (Cindy), and Tim Jennings (Heather), as well as five grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
