Elmer Judson Crews

Elmer Judson Crews of Lynchburg, VA passed away February 1, 2019.  He was born on a Halifax County farm on May 20, 1931 and was 87 years of age. He was the son of the late Daniel Judson Crews and the late Annie Lavie Pugh Crews.  Surviving are his sister, Rosa Lee Viar of Lynchburg and a dear friend of many years, Janet L. Cofer of Lynchburg.

Elmer was a former member of Ellis Creek Baptist Church, and a current member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He graduated from Volens High School in Nathalie, VA and Phillips Business College of Lynchburg. Elmer was a Traveling Auditor for 19 years for the Commonwealth of VA Milk Commission (traveling 8 states). Previous employment was Universal Leaf Tobacco Company, Burlington Mills and General Electric Company of Lynchburg, VA.

With his love of automobiles, Elmer was a member for many years, of the Antique Automobile Club of America, both local and national chapters. He was the proud owner of many cars, including an antique 1972 Buick Centurion convertible.  Along with his love of cars he was an avid baseball fan, Elmer especially enjoyed cheering for the New York Yankees.

Elmer loved to square dance and also loved ballroom dancing, especially the Waltz. Another pleasure for him was traveling and seeing the United States; he loved the Hawaiian Islands, Las Vegas, Atlantic City and riding the waves at the ocean, along with other travels.

Elmer chose to take early retirement from the Commonwealth of Virginia Milk Commission and for some time worked with real estate.

Elmer Crews leaves a wonderful legacy of his belief in honesty, punctuality, and fair treatment of everyone.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Ellis Creek Baptist Church, 1025 Buckskin Trail, Nathalie, VA with the Rev.  W. D. Mills officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at Ellis Creek Baptist Church.
