Obituary Notice Mrs. Evelyn Elaine Hupp Motley Evelyn Elaine Hupp Motley of Virgilina passed peacefully June 9, 2023, at the age of 85. Elaine was born July 10, 1937, in Halifax County to the late Gable Jackson Hupp and Evelyn Sue Copley Hupp. She was a graduate of Halifax County Senior High School and attended Ferrum College, Radford College, and Averett College. She was employed by Halifax County Public Schools as the librarian and remedial math teacher at Meadville Elementary School. She was employed by the school system from 1967 to 1972. She is fondly remembered by the students she worked with during that brief but significant period of Halifax County history. She was a lifelong and active member of First Baptist Church of Main Street South Boston. She volunteered in many ways for her church community, but she will be most remembered for the hundreds of Wednesday night dinners she helped prepare with her husband, Nelson. In addition to her work with the FBC, she was a member of the Midway Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be remembered for dedication to assist MVFD through her cooking skills and her visits to members of the community to help raise funds. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Charles Hupp, Jack Hupp, Dale Hupp. Elaine was married to the late Nelson Ferguson Motley, Sr. for 49 years. She had two children, Allyn Beth Motley Noble (Chris) and Nelson Ferguson Motley, Jr. Elaine is also survived by her brothers Norman Hupp (Becky) and Doug Hupp (Pat) as well as her two sister-in- laws Mary Ellen Hupp and Vivian Hupp. She leaves behind her nieces and nephew, Diane Turner, Debbie Motley, Catherine Ratliff, Wendy Hupp, Jennifer Hupp, Chris Hupp, Cameron Nelson, and Abby Hupp. She was fondly loved by her 2 great nieces Katherine and Charlotte Nothern and her great nephew Jack Nothern. She is also survived by a host of cousins. Elaine will be missed by all who knew her. She responded to a good joke with a great laugh. Elaine was known for her penchant to tell things as they were: she would always answer questions with an honest answer no matter what the questioner wanted her to say. A visitation will be held Monday night June 12, 2023, at Powell Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church of South Boston (815 N.
