Henry Dewitt Thaxton, Jr.

Henry Dewitt “D.J.” Thaxton, Jr. of South Boston, VA passed away January 26, 2021.  He was born in Halifax County, VA on October 5, 1936 and was 84 years of age. He was the son of the late Henry Dewitt Thaxton, Sr. and the late Letha Lowery Thaxton. He was married to Barbara Privette Thaxton who survives.

He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church where he served on the Hospitality and Property Committees. He served in the United States Army, retired from Westinghouse and was a part time farmer.

A graveside service will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Mull officiating. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of facemasks and to practice social distancing. The service will be livestreamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.

The family will receive friends at his home.
