Mr. Hubert Wayne Womack of South Boston, VA passed away on Friday, July 12,2024 at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Halifax County, June 30,1944 and was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Jeter Patterson Womack and the late Thelma Bliss Womack.
In his younger years, he was a musician and singer with a local band “The Denniston Bank” and won the Battle of the Bands in 1967. He worked for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department in the late seventies. He then worked briefly for the Virginia ATF. He helped his brother Larry farm tobacco until 1989 and then worked for many years as a security guard at Sunshine Mills, Clover Power Plant, and Louisiana Pacific. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and at one time held the state record for the largest bass caught in Virginia. He loved spending time visiting with and talking with his family and friends and was known for his love of animals. Wayne never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed.
