John "B" Blair Kerns, II

John Blair Kerns, II “B” age 68 of Vernon Hill passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Sentara Medical Center, South Boston. He was born in Danville, VA on May 14, 1953 to Maris V. Kerns and Vernell I. Kerns.

 

Mr. Kerns was a 1971 graduate of Dan River High School and was a well-known farmer in the Sutherlin and Vernon Hill communities. He also worked for White’s Construction Inc of Sutherlin for many years. He was most recently employed by Lazy “C” Farms of Vernon Hill, VA.  “B” married Nita Womack of Vernon Hill, VA on September 20, 1974. They were blessed with two sons John Blair Kerns III and Maris Vernon Kerns, II.

 

  Mr. Kerns is survived by his wife Nita and son MV of the home, and daughter-in-law Kelly Ratliff Kerns. He is also survived by three Grandchildren Kaitlyn Dockery, Abigail Blair Kerns and Colin Mason Kerns. His mother, Vernell I. Kerns and His sister Karen Kerns Needy and her husband Bill of Alton, VA. and many wonderful friends from the Vernon Hill Community.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Maris Kerns and his son John Blair “JB” Kerns

 

“B” will especially be remembered for his quick wit, his love for farming, running heavy equipment and his love for family and friends. He also loved attending races at South Boston Speedway where he was and avid fan of Lee Pulliam Racing.

A memorial service will be held at Powell Funeral Home Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.

 

 In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to Oak Lovel Volunteer Department, 2019 Oak Level Rd. Halifax, VA 24558
