Kathryn Elizabeth Perkins Ferrell, 70 of Vernon Hill, VA, passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2025. She was born on February 22, 1954 in Pittsylvania County to the late Oliver Holmes Perkins, Sr and the late Violet Tuck Perkins. Also she was preceded in death by her special friend, Bobby Perkins.
Kathy will be remembered for her 35-year nursing career. She graduated from Halifax County School of Nursing in 1975. Kathy worked many years at Halifax Regional Hospital and multiple skilled nursing facilities in VA and NC. She was known as a caring, compassionate and dedicated nurse to all.
Kathy loved life and always enjoyed dancing, riding around on the back roads, and listening to music. Her favorite place was any lake or body of water, especially Gravel Hill, Buffalo Springs, and Sandy Creek. Kathy found beauty in the most mundane things and places, which have left her children with profound, numerous memories.
Kathy had a kind and humble spirit, who found the good in all. She looked beyond status and title, and treated everyone she came in contact with, with love and compassion. She had a great love for animals, especially her two cats, Togo and MeMe, and her yorkie, Mocha. Kathy was known for spending hours earning the trust of an animal that needed love and a home. Her love of life knew no boundaries, whether it was a person or animal, they felt her love by simply being in her presence.
Kathy was a loving mama to her five children: Cassie Ferrell Faircloth (Ricky) of Dunn, NC, Summer Ferrell Honeycutt (Larry) of Dunn, NC, Randi Warner (Brian) of Alton, VA, Jennie Ferrell Kimmer (Dee) of Roseboro, NC and Cody Dylan Ferrell of Vernon Hill, VA.
Kathy was also a fun loving “NaGannie” and “GiGi” to her grandchildren: Lil Ricky, Amber, Hannah, Ethan, Aydan, Mollie, Jacob, Austin, and Crissy of Dunn, NC and Lily and Jake of Alton, VA.
Kathy is survived by two siblings who she loved dearly: her brother, Oliver Holmes “Skip” Perkins Jr, (Ruby) of Lexington, NC and her sister, Claudia Tuck Perkins of South Boston, VA.
Kathy is also survived by a special aunt, Jean T. Matthews (Woody) of South Boston, VA and special cousin, who was more like a sister, Debbie Tuck Talbott of South Boston, VA. Her memory will continue to be cherished by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our Mama, Kathryn “Kat” Elizabeth Perkins Ferrell, instilled in us, her children, to not take a second of life for granted, to embrace every single memory, whether it filled our hearts with joy or crushed our spirits, that everything is a gift from God, and one should never, ever waste the opportunity to dance in the rain.
For memorials, Kathy would love for you to consider adoption from your local animal shelter or donating to any charitable organization of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday February 16, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home with the Pastor Jeremy Autry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Powell Funeral Home.
