Lillian Russell Ridgeway passed away on August 9, 2021 just shy of her 100th birthday. She is now reunited with her parents Mattie and Charlie Russell, brother Bill Russell and the love of her life, husband Richard Ridgeway.
Lillian was a life member of First Baptist Church of South Boston where she served as deacon, Sunday school teacher for over 50 years and member of various committees. She retired from Dominion Resources as Senior clerk after 39 years and was secretary of the Eastern Star. Lillian served as secretary, treasurer and longtime volunteer of the Halifax - South Boston Historical Museum.
She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, studying her Bible, drawing and painting. Lillian had so many dear friends and a wonderful church family who were her support system. They meant the world to her. She was truly never alone thanks to their fellowship and faithfulness.
To her family she was their precious Aunt Lillian. The love and bond they shared was beyond special. Lillian was involved and interested in every aspect of their lives. The times they spent together created wonderful memories. She will be forever loved and missed by her niece Lynne (Hank) Riddick, nephew Bob (Lisa) Russell, great niece Lindsey (TJ) Nagel, and great nephews: Bryan (Caroline) Riddick, Bryce Russell, Robert Russell, and Matthew Russell. She was especially “smitten” with her great grand nephews, Grayson Riddick and Fourth Nagel. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Tuck Russell.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to the "Lillian Ridgeway Children’s Fund” in care of First Baptist Church of South Boston. Money from this fund will be used to continue Lillian’s dedication to contributing and supporting the needs of children.
