Linda Seamster Shelton, a beloved member of the community and the publisher of the local paper, has sadly passed away on July 26, 2023. Linda was known for her outgoing personality and her deep connection to the people she served. She was born on September 22, 1946, in Halifax, VA to the late Mervin Seamster and the late Almeda Covington Seamster.
Linda's career as the Publisher of Gazette Virginian spanned many years and left an indelible mark on the community. She dedicated herself to providing reliable and informative news to the residents of Halifax and beyond. Linda's commitment to journalism was unwavering, and she upheld the highest standards of reporting throughout her tenure.
In her free time, Linda enjoyed immersing herself in beach music and shagging. She found joy in dancing to the vibrant beats and melodies that resonated with her soul. It was not uncommon to see Linda effortlessly moving across the dance floor, filled with exuberance and spreading happiness wherever she went.
However, above all else, Linda valued her relationships with family and friends. She treasured every moment spent with loved ones and always made sure those around her felt cared for and appreciated. She had a contagious laughter that could brighten even the dullest days and a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome.
Linda Seamster Shelton leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Her dedication to serving her community through journalism, unwavering faith, love for music, and devotion to family will forever be cherished.
She is survived by her loving family who will continue to carry on her spirit: Her daughters; Elizabeth R. Tingen (Stacy), Sarah H. Shelton (Wes) both of South Boston. Five Grandchildren; Amanda Long, Ryan Tingen, Chase Tingen, Payne Eller, Ben Eller. Two sisters; Kaye Hayden (Ronnie) of Danville, VA and Evelyn Jalink of Newport News, VA. Her Grand Dog, Doodles.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Burial to follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
