Lucy Estelle "Bess" Powell

On Monday, October 14, 2019, my mom Lucy Estelle Powell, affectionately known by family as Bess, joined my dad in heaven to spend eternity together. She was predeceased by her parents George V. Poteat and Lucy Poteat, her husband Charles A. Powell, and son Stephen A. Powell and great granddaughter Savanna Powell. She was last remaining survivor of 12 brothers and sisters.

She was born March 7, 1927 in Spartanburg, S.C. and as a small child the entire family moved to Virginia. At the age of 17, she met my dad and they were married December 2, 1944.

Mom was a member of Revelation Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandra Warren of Danville, VA., grandchildren Todd Wilson (Kerri), Gregory Warren, Tommy Warren (Debbie), Tara Wilborn (Jason), and Chris Powell (Holly). She is survived by eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three special sisters-in-law Nancy Poteat, Myrtle House, and Marion Hood, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and were special in so many ways.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with George Thompson officiating. Burial to follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends, Saturday one-hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
