Margaret Virginia Throckmorton Burton

Margaret Virginia Throckmorton Burton, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023. She was born on October 10, 1925 to the late Herbert H. Throckmorton and the late Evelyn S. Throckmorton.  She was married to the late Edward H. Burton Sr.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  Margaret also had a fulfilling career at J. P. Stevens where she dedicated over 20 years of her life before retiring. Her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all that she did. 

Margaret found great joy in caring for her flowers and could be seen in the beautiful blossoms in her yard. Margaret took great pride in her gardening skills and would spend countless hours tending to her plants with tender care. Through her love for gardening, she brought color and beauty into the lives of those around her.  Margaret was loved by all who knew her and never heard a negative word against her.  She was always ready to give to those who needed a hand.  She was the best mother you could ask for. 

Margaret was survived by her loving children; Edward Harding Burton, Jr. and wife Patsy of Scottsburg, and Pamela "Pam" Ratliff, both of South Boston.   She is also survived by Seven grandchildren; Shane (Dianne), Brandy (Chris), Ben, Mandy, Amy (Bucky), Lizzy (Mike) and Chad; Fifteen Great Grandchildren, one brother, Alton Throckmorton, one sister, Agnes Hackney and a host of nieces and nephews. All who brought immeasurable joy into her life.

She was preceded in death by her son Billy Burton, four brothers, Alec, Joel, Ernest, and Louis Throckmorton; two sisters, Livian Layne and Linda Marshall.

Margaret Virginia Throckmorton Burton will be remembered as a remarkable woman who approached life with grace and compassion. She brought love and light into the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vance Midgett officiating.  Burial to follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
