Marian Mitchell Irby

Mrs. Marian Mitchell Irby went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 25, 2024. She was born Marian Louise Mitchell on October 12, 1943, to Helen and Edward Garland Mitchell in Newport News, VA. Marian was the youngest of six and grew up in Poquoson, VA

Mrs. Marian Irby was preceded in death by her parents: Helen Evans Mitchell and Edward Garland Mitchell Sr.; siblings: Edward Garland Mitchell Jr., Edith Deal Cyphers, Jackie Owen Mitchell, and Judith Elizabeth Mitchell as well as several in-laws.

Marian was blessed to have lived a full life. On June 30, 1962, she married Robert L. “Bob” Irby in Poquoson, VA, at Tabernacle Baptist Church. After a short honeymoon Bob and Marian moved to Halifax County, VA where Marian lived with Bob until her passing.

As a resident of Halifax County she worked in the office administration field at several locations throughout town. Upon her retirement she had been employed at Berry Hill Nursing Home for 15 years.

She was an active and faithful member of Ellis Creek Baptist Church where she was saved and served as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. Marian loved her church and her Sunday school students.

Marian was very well loved by her family, friends, and co-workers. She leaves behind her husband, Robert “Bob” Irby, and a sister, Cora “Cookie” Mitchell Fox.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Ellis Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Ward officiating.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
