Marvin Douglas Crew passed away January 1, 2023 at the age of 75 at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond, VA. He was born on September 25, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Marvin James Crew and Mary Louise Crew. He is survived by sisters Pamela Meier and husband William (Billy), and Linda Jinright, and nephews, Michael Douglas Meier and Alan Jinright. Doug was preceded in death by a sister Angela Crew and nephew Jon David Meier.
Doug attended University of Alabama where he earned an Aerospace Degree. Later, while employed by Westinghouse, he went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in Vietnam where he flew Chinook Helicopters. Doug and Mz Pat owned and operated Patricia’s School of Dance and MDC Dance Wear for 33 years. He was known as “Mr. Doug” to his students.
One of Doug’s hobbies was karting; he won several races on major speedways such as Daytona, Rockingham, Charlotte, New Hampshire, and others. He owned and was proud of several Harley Davidson soft tail motorcycles which he had custom designed. He attended many bike rallies and enjoyed participating in Rolling Thunder. He enjoyed riding his bike especially when he would ride to Montgomery, Alabama.
Doug had a kind and giving heart, he would often stop and rescue “roadside” kittens even taking some home to live with him for as long as 20 to 25 years! He also was known for helping anyone in need, whether a stranger or a friend.
A celebration of life will be held on March 25, 2023 at the American Legion Post 8 from 1:00 until 3 P.M.
