Mary E. Bakierowski

Mary E. Bakierowski of Halifax passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 80. She was born in Seven Corners, in Northern Viginia on November 17, 1944, the daughter of Edward Nixon and Ethel Elizabeth Loveless. She spent most of her life in Northern Virginia, where she worked a variety of jobs, including one as a "headhunter." When Mary and her husband retired in 2009, they chose to come to the Southside, on the theory, as they explained it, that this was as far as they could get from the D.C. area and still remain in the Old Dominion.

Mary took much pleasure in travelling to a variety of locations, but especially to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, SC. In her spare time, she was an able and enthusiastic amateur cook.

She was a loyal friend, fun-loving but level-headed, and always elegant. Some years ago, at a rather posh wine dinner in Halifax, the master of ceremonies introduced Mary and her husband as "the chicest couple I know." She was, however, equally at home in camouflage gear, in a deer stand with her husband, who much appreciated the extra eyes.

Mary and her husband were parishioners of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in Youngsville, NC.

She was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Jean Crider, and is survived by her husband, Waclaw, and her daughter, Angela Policano.

There will be a viewing on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 9:00 A.M. at Powell Funeral Home. The Requiem Mass will follow at 10:00, at Powell Funeral Home. This will be followed by a burial in the family plot.

Those wishing to give memorials are encouraged to make a contribution to the poor box of their church or to some other appropriate charity of their choice.

Online condolence may be directed to www.powellfuneralinc.com.

Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home, 1603 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, VA 24592
