Michael O'Kelly Connelly

Michael O’Kelly Connelly of Mathews, Va. died on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home. Mike was born on May 20, 1957, to Mead Lee Connelly, Sr. and Elizabeth Anne Simmons Connelly of Martinsville, Va. who both predeceased him.  

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lydia Tuck Connelly. Also surviving are his brothers Mead Lee Connelly, Jr. of Cumming, Ga., and James Robert Connelly (Katherine) of Collinsville, Va., Mike was also close to and survived by his cousins Marcia Connelly Rhodes, Alvin Ray Connelly, and Margaret Connelly McCullough. 

 Surviving nieces and nephews include Susan Lisa Connelly (Charles), James Robert Connelly, Jr., Pamela Connelly Hall (David), Colleen Barnes, and Patrick Barnes (Lydia). Great nieces and nephews are James Connelly, III, Joshua Connelly, Hannah Connelly, Ruth Connelly, Jessica Franklin, Reid Franklin, and Zach Hall. 

 Mike retired from a successful professional career in the IT field, mostly in the insurance and banking industries in Richmond. In addition, Mike found a great deal of enjoyment in sports, especially golf. In high school, he lettered in both golf and football. 

 Mike also loved all animals and doted on his dogs and cats. In retirement, he fed deer, squirrels and birds and had a special rapport with his neighbors’ cows.

 A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Campbell officiating. 

 The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
