Mildred Shelton Smith Thomas of South Boston, VA went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband Emmis Thomas and a brother, Irvin Smith and her parents, Willie Joseph and Flossie Hatcher Smith
She was a lifelong member of Scottsburg Baptist Church where she taught Children’s Sunday School for many years. She had a way of making a Bible story come to life. Mrs. Mildred Thomas also worked and led Vacation Bible School of Scottsburg for 47 years. She was a wonderful caring mother and wife. Her favorite things were cooking, reading, sewing, gardening and fishing. She was a devoted wife who did restaurant duties at the former Thomas Lunch Room in Riverdale along with her husband.

Many thanks to the staff at Woodview for their nursing and service. Also thank you to the Sentara Halifax Regional Hospice, there are certain times, “Angels” appear to provide hope and compassion.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Kermit Evans officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Scottsburg Baptist Church immediately following the service.
