Mildred Eades Womack went to her heavenly home on September 10, 2018. She was born on June 19, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, VA and was 89 years old. Mildred was a resident of Woodview Seasons in South Boston, VA at the time of her death. She was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church in Halifax, VA where she helped with the nursery Sunday School many years. Little children were near and dear to her heart.
Mildred was married to Claude W. Womack and together they ran a country store, 360 Self Service on Mountain Road in Halifax, VA for approximately 40 years. Generations of their customer families bought fresh fish on Tuesdays, gasoline from the two pumps out front, kerosene, and had access to free air from a pump on the side of the store. Country staples such as hand-sliced hoop cheese in its round wooden container to the coldest coca-colas around were just a couple of the collective menagerie found in the by-gone era store.
Mildred enjoyed life’s simple pleasures most of all. She loved her church and family, had a green thumb for growing flowers, loved animals, liked Sunday afternoon car rides, sitting on the carport talking with family and friends, making countless cakes, pies, and cookies to share with friends and to offer as condolences when there was a neighborhood death. She was quick to help people in any way possible.
Mildred Eades Womack was predeceased by her husband Claude W. Womack, her parents Ocie and Sallie Eades, and siblings Willie Eades, Robert Eades, Garland Eades, Roy Eades, Sadie Eades Ridgeway, Ruth Eades Mullins, and Christine Eades Mills. She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Womack Palladino and her husband Glenn of South Boston, VA, grandson Jared White, his wife Carrie and great-granddaughter Jenna of Cincinnati, Ohio, grandson Cooper White and his wife Brianne of Lynchburg, VA and granddaughter Ashley E. White of South Boston, VA.
