Our precious mother is now at rest in the arms of God and in the presence of His glory. Nancy Glass Adkins was 88 years old and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, August 6, 2022. The youngest child of Artie William and Beulah Carter Glass, she was born December 6, 1933 in Sutherlin, VA. She lived the majority of her life in South Boston, VA but relocated more recently to Richmond, VA to be near her children and grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 69 years, Garnett Herman (Popeye) Adkins and her three children: David Lynn Adkins, Sr. (Phyllis), Mark Alan Adkins and Cynthia Adkins Creasey (Mark). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five older sisters: Cecile G. Mills, Virginia G. Rice, Marie G. Henderson, Dorothy G. Clark and Edith G. Bradshaw.
Nancy graduated from Turbeville High School. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life and was extremely devoted to her entire family. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she solely made it a celebrated family event that, to this day, is unparalleled. With a smile that could light up a room, she had an infectious personality and loved to laugh. Her excellent cooking skills and her baking talent are greatly missed.
Along with her immediate family Nancy loved her church and was a dedicated member. She held many positions at McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church over the years to include president of the Woman’s Auxiliary.
She is so dearly missed but her incredible capacity to love and her sweet spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating. Burial to follow in the Oak Ridge cemetery.
