Mrs. Nancy Gilliam LaNeave Pool of South Boston, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was born in Crewe, VA on December 20, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Drury Warriner LaNeave and Edith Tunstall LaNeave. For fifty years, she was married to her husband Delbert Edgar “Del” Pool, who survives. She is also survived by her two children, David Michael Good and Salli LaNeave Pool (Tania), both of Virginia Beach, and two grandsons Michael Drury Good (Meredith) of Virginia Beach and Matthew Harrison Good of Charleston , SC. One of the highlights of her final days was meeting her first great grandchild, Harrison Drury Good of Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Anne LaNeave Thackston.
Her passion and life’s work was the economic vitality of Halifax County and surrounding Southside Virginia. She was the first full-time employee of Halifax Chamber of Commerce, beginning her service in 1980 and serving as President from 1983 until 2015, retiring as the longest serving chairman of a chamber in the state of Virginia. Under her leadership, membership quadrupled and the renowned Cantaloupe Festival began as a fundraiser in 1981. She was recognized as Chamber Executive of the Year in 1994 and in 2015, she received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. In addition to her work with the Chamber, she was a founding member of the Halifax County Department of Tourism and served from its inception in 2003 until 2021. She remained an influential member of the Industrial Development Authority Board until her passing.
Outside of her professional achievements, she enjoyed an extensive circle of friends, an evening boat ride at the lake, and a glass of wine. Her loss will be felt deeply by our community and all who knew her.
