Victor King Claiborne

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Victor (Vic) King Claiborne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2024 at the age of 86.

Vic was born on August 18, 1937, in Finchley, VA to Luther and Betty Glasscock Cliborne. He was a resident of Halifax, Va. 

He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Deborah Elliott Claiborne, daughters Rhonda Hale, Teresa Warren (Ben), Vicky Wilson (Danny), and Whitney Greenway (Tim), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a special niece Helen Overton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roy Cliborne, one sister Ruby Cliborne Tolbert, a son Brian Scott Jones and son-in-law Larry Hale and special family pet Puddin.

Vic was known for his gentle spirit, infectious sense of humor, kindness, and love for children and animals. A true family man, he loved his family deeply. He was employed with Proffitt Lumber Company for 37 years, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues and clients alike. He was passionate about music and was an accomplished musician playing in bands such as Sound Masters, Rambling Fever, and Vic & the Young at Hearts. He was also a faithful member of Berry Hill Presbyterian Church and cherished his church family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Vic’s exceptional hospice nurses and caregivers: Cindy Conner, Rosa Dixon, Katrena Brooks, Tiffany Brown, Stacie Smith, and Connie Marvin at Sentara Hospice, for the outstanding care provided over the past several months. Additionally, the family wishes to express gratitude to friends and neighbors Janet Fisher, Ray and Connie Martin, and Dennis and Gail Howell, for their invaluable support and kindness.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Berry Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andy Ferguson and Rev. Roger Wilborn officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
