William Hines Payne

William Hines “Billy” Payne of South Boston, VA passed away on July 7, 2023.  He was born in Halifax County, VA on February 7, 1938 and was 85 years of age.  He was the son of the late Carl Evans Payne and the late Louise Hines Payne.  He was married to Sara McCanless Payne who survives.

He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.  Billy was retired co-owner and Vice President of Halifax Cotton Mill.  He was an avid golfer and found great joy with the times he spent on the golf course.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Russell officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at his home.
