Frances Ann LaNeave Thackston went to be with the Lord on February 14, Valentine’s Day. She was born to Drury Warriner LaNeave and Edith Tunstall LaNeave on March 20, 1940, in Crewe, Virginia. She graduated from Crewe High School in 1958 and attended Pan American Business School in Richmond. On September 12, 1959, she married the love of her life who preceded her in death, Major General Carroll Thackston, former Adjutant General of the Virginia National Guard.
She is survived by sons: Michael LaNeave Thackston, Jonathan Drury Thackston (Ann Marie) and COL Mark Carroll Thackston (Erin), four grandchildren: Drury ‘Dru’ Thomas Thackston (Nicole), Edward Milam ‘Miles’ Thackston, Courtland Elizabeth Thackston and Carrington Mark Thackston, step-great-grandchildren, Sophie Blair Wilson and Madilyn Brooke Wilson along with one sister, Nancy Gilliam LaNeave Pool (Del), nephew, David Michael Good, niece, Salli LaNeave Pool and great nephews, Michael Drury Good (Meredith) and Matthew Harrison Good.
Frances Ann was a true patriot who established a support structure in her heart and home that supported her loving husband and three sons service in the Virginia Army National Guard.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, 800 North Main St., South Boston where services will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, North Main St., South Boston.
For memorials please consider in lieu of flowers donations to the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. 1891, Halifax, VA 24558, or the Halifax County Rescue Squad, 700 Hamilton Blvd., South Boston.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers from Marsha’s Home Care Agency and Commonwealth Senior Living, as well as Shelby Talbott and Avon Traynhan.
